Empower, Rebuild, Thrive
Addis Bahay Foundation
A nonprofit organization dedicated to providing safe, supportive housing and empowering services for victims of domestic violence.
Our Journey, Your Sanctuary
The Addis Bahay Foundation was born out of a deep desire to make a difference. Co-founders Alem Gebreyesus, with a background in real estate investment, and Ananda Gebreyesus, an educator, combined their talents and resources to create a safe haven for those who have experienced abuse. Inspired by the story of Kim Carter a true leader in this space, they are committed to being a guiding light for those in need. Their approach focuses on holistic healing and empowerment, providing not just a temporary shelter but a steppingstone towards independence and homeownership.

Empowering Services
At Addis Bahay Foundation, we offer a range of supportive services designed to equip our residents with the necessary skills to help them rebuild their lives. Our services are not just about providing immediate relief but also about ensuring long-term recovery and independence. We believe in the power of holistic healing and empowerment, and our services reflect this belief.

Housing
We provide safe, supportive, temporary housing for victims of domestic violence. Our housing solutions are designed to offer a sanctuary where residents can feel secure as they begin their journey towards recovery and independence. Those who join our homeowner’s program will find themselves in a beautiful house of their own.

Job Placement
We understand the importance of stable employment in rebuilding lives. Our job placement services are designed to help our residents find suitable employment opportunities that can support their journey towards independence. We work closely with local businesses and organizations to identify opportunities that match our residents’ skills and interests.

Financial Education
Financial independence is a key aspect of empowerment. We offer financial education programs that equip our residents with the knowledge and skills they need to manage their finances effectively. These programs cover a range of topics, from budgeting and saving to understanding credit and loans.

Mental Health/Therapy
Healing from trauma is a crucial part of the recovery process. We provide access to mental health services and therapy to help our residents heal from their experiences. Our mental health services include individual therapy, group therapy, and support groups, all provided by qualified mental health professionals.

Self Defense Classes
We believe in giving our residents the tools and skills they need to protect themselves. By partnering with local self-defense instructors, we help connect our residents to discounted/free classes designed to build confidence, improve physical fitness, and provide practical self-defense skills.

Group Meetings
Our group meetings provide a safe space for residents to share their experiences, learn from others, and build a supportive community. These meetings are facilitated by experienced professionals who provide guidance and support.

Scholarships
We believe in the power of education to change lives. Our scholarship program provides financial support for residents who wish to pursue further education or training. This can be a powerful tool in breaking the cycle of abuse and building a brighter future.
Why Choose Addis Bahay Foundation
At Addis Bahay Foundation, we believe in a holistic approach to healing and empowerment. We understand that overcoming domestic violence involves more than just physical safety; it requires addressing emotional wounds, building self-confidence, and providing individuals with the skills and resources they need to thrive independently.
Holistic Approach
Unlike many traditional shelters, we don’t just provide a roof over your head; we offer a comprehensive range of services designed to empower you to rebuild your life. From mental health support to financial education and job placement, we address the various aspects of recovery and independence.

Empowerment Through Education
We firmly believe in the transformative power of education. Whether it’s through financial education that equips you with the tools to manage your finances effectively, or through scholarships that provide opportunities for further education or training, we are committed to empowering our residents through knowledge.
Path to Homeownership
Our ultimate goal is to help our residents become homeowners, providing a permanent solution to housing insecurity. This is a unique aspect of our program that sets us apart. We leverage our real estate background to guide our residents on the path to homeownership, providing them with the stability and security they need to thrive.

Personalized Support
We understand that every individual’s journey is unique, and we tailor our services to meet the specific needs of each resident. From the moment you reach out to us, we work closely with you to understand your needs, goals, and challenges, and we develop a personalized plan to support you on your journey to independence.
Community Engagement
We believe in the power of community in healing and recovery. Our group meetings and support groups provide a safe space for residents to share their experiences, learn from others, and build a supportive community. We also work closely with local businesses and organizations to create opportunities for our residents and to foster a community that supports and empowers survivors of domestic violence.
